What we’re about
Hi there! We’re Zelda & Anja, a mother-daughter duo with a shared passion for art, crafting, and creative exploration. With over 35 years of combined experience in teaching, art direction, content creation, marine geology, travel, wedding planning, a tight bond, and a love for people of all ages, we’ve come together to create a space where creativity thrives.
For us, play is all about creating and discovering—whether it’s through crafting, exploring new ideas, or expressing ourselves in unexpected ways. We believe that when we allow ourselves to explore freely, we unlock new possibilities and deepen our connection to the world around us. We’re here to inspire that spirit of playful creativity in everyone, no matter their age!

So, you might be wondering where
we got our name from?
Keep reading for a little bit of insight into how Tui & Toi came about.
The meaning
At Tui and Toi Creative Studios, our name is inspired by two words that mean a lot to us, both in their cultural significance and the way they shape how we approach creativity. First, there's Tui. The Tui is a native bird known for its energy, curiosity, creativity, playfulness, and distinctive call. For us, the Tui represents the fun, free-spirited side of creativity—whether it’s kids getting messy with crafts or adults exploring new ideas. It’s all about expressing yourself, trying something new, and having a bit of fun while you do it.
Then there's Toi, the Māori word for art, creativity, and craftsmanship. Toi is about respecting tradition, culture, and the skill it takes to bring an idea to life. It’s the thoughtfulness and intention behind everything we make, from the smallest project to the big, bold creations.
Together, Tui and Toi are the perfect match: playful and energetic, with a deep respect for the art and craftsmanship that make what we do meaningful. Whether you’re crafting with your kids or working on a more refined project, we aim to bring out both the fun and the depth in every creative experience.
Tui symbolizes creativity, communication, adaptability, connection, and beauty, reminding us to express ourselves fully, connect with others, and find resilience in our journey.
